You should provide a comprehensive report, including the data, methods, results and final conclusions together with management information and any other information relating to the project up to the completion date. However, please ensure that your writing is succinct.

Word count

As of 1st January 2017, the main body of all submitted reports (excluding PGfAR reports) must not exceed 50,000 words. This limit includes all text, tables, figures and boxes within the main body of the report. The main body of the report is from chapter one to the end of acknowledgements. Please note that your report will not proceed to peer review if it is over this limit.

The limit does NOT include the abstract, scientific summary and plain language summary (which continue to have their own individual word limits). It also excludes the table of contents, references, appendices or other supplementary material. 

Report format

Please ensure that you format your report in line with the requirements set out below:

  • Presented in Microsoft Word
  • Use of a standard font
  • Each page should be numbered
  • A total word count should be provided for the report, plus a separate word count for the scientific summary and abstract. The main body of all submitted reports (excluding PGfAR reports) must not exceed 50,000 words.
  • Quotations over 40 words in length should be displayed as a separate paragraph (please do not use text boxes)
  • Footnotes should NOT be used
  • Hyperlinks - please ensure that if there are any active links in your report, the link text provided matches the DOI you have linked to. The production house will use the link text you have provided to create the hyperlinks
