This mixed-methods study used network-mapping techniques to understand more about the personal networks developed by people with severe mental illness. Findings suggested networks varied greatly between individuals but were important in assisting recovery and resilience. Health-care organisations and staff did not always see it as their role to help individuals build effective personal networks; this study provides a practical tool to help with this.
